Insight: Hizbollah and Israel

No one likes to see war. It is ugly.
Like watching Big Brother, war exposes the reality of human nature that we have become unaccustomed to in a world of staged and scripted experience. It is ugly and confusing. That, unfortunately, is human nature.

On Insight this evening, the moderator asked a young Israeli officer if he questioned the actions of Israel. He said he did.
What he did not say was something any soldier faces at some point in their term of service: the commitment.

A soldier learns commitment in a special way. At some point, the soldier realizes the commitment to be a soldier means he or she has given up their rights. Any order that can is legal within the bounds of war will be followed, even if the soldier will die or be wounded; even if it he or she will kill or wound others.
On the day the soldier realizes that their oath has surrendered their civil and human rights is when the soldier truly comes to value civil and human rights for everyone.
