Some things never change?
Dave (Who is this Dave character anyway?) recently got the opportunity to watch the 1986 Hypothetical where Robertson featured "Till Divorce us do Part".
Very interesting and very disturbing. Just proved to Dave how little has changed in 20 years:
- - Judges still doing the same old tricks and acting the independent thing;
- - Solicitors & Judges known to incompetent, back stabbing own clients and deciding matters over the phone rather than in court. All in the name of higher duty to kids or court than client confidence;
- - Kirby (Where is this Kirby?) was seen as best man for job of Judicial Ombudsman by Marsden - but 20 years on - we still don't have one;
- - Bettina Arndt appeared less balanced in her views than she is today. It would be interesting to know what changed her views over the 20 years since;
- - Feminist lobby still in for their 80% of positive discrimination;
- - Cookie cutter model alive and well in its presumption of mother is kids best interests;
- - 25% of kids were known to be DNA-not - per a recent 1986 UK study;
- - Pandora's box ($50 DNA test) was seen as available next year but we still don't have it 20 years on. It would appear to Dave the authorities simply don't want Pandora's box opened up that far.
- - No fault divorce was obviously not working 11 years after 1975 , but 20 years on its still not working.
From the historical perspective:
- - Di was looking less stressed and less burnt out from 20 years of Family Law. With that deep voice one wonders if she should have taken up a singing career rather than professional pro-sex discrimination.
- - The Rodent back then had no show of becoming PM in opinion polls - but probably more then than Beazley now;
- - Marsden (RIP) was only Anzac willing to stand by his man, but was totally PC when he was having a fag on the set;
Outcome: revealed only way for blokes to get justice was to stay out of solicitors office, out of court - take the kids and go live in hiding for 6 years. Just make sure your stealing your own DNA material and not the chip off best friend's block.
All in all - very little has changed in 20 years, but the word never got out.
