This might sound naive
We may criticise the Women's Movement for demonising men, and for reinforcing the negative male stereotype.
But are we not doing something similar ?
I propose that we work to make the men's movement a Positive Men's Movement ('PMM' - not to be confused with 'PMT').
By this I mean, we eliminate criticisms, language of hate and anger, slurs, sarcasm etc as much as possible.
When we do need to raise issues, we do so in the most positive way we can. I believe that this approach will transform us and the movement, and I believe it will have the most potential to change the status quo to something far more enlightened.
It is not easy to do this because we are so used to looking at the world in an adversarial way. But how can we criticise the Family Court for its adversarial method when we ourselves are adversarial ?
But a word of caution: beware of becoming messianic with this positive approach - holier-than-thou - where we simply take on new prejudices, and our minds remain as closed to other views as ever. It is not easy for us to change ourselves to positive thinking, to a Positive Men's Movement, because it means re-wiring our thought patterns and our worldview.
But we can do it little by little.
It would also help in the healing process for hundreds and hundreds of damaged men.
