The compliments of NOW
NOW ACTION ALERT ON "FATHERS' RIGHTS"
WHEREAS organizations advocating "fathers' rights," whose members consist of non-custodial parents, their attorneys and their allies, are a growing
force in our country; and
WHEREAS the objectives of these groups ....
We have been paid a great compliment by NOW.
Read this carefully. Note the nuance and meaning between the words.
The once-mighty NOW --with hundreds of chapters all over the world -- feels threatened. And for good reason.
Look at the format. It is not just an opinion. This document is in the form of a legal proclamation. NOW feels so threatened, they have chosen to hide behind the structure. They are relying on this faux-legislative form to mask the inequality and injustice of their position.
NOW realizes that their efforts have gone too far. That the laws they support are no longer in accord with an effort to equality before the law, but now demand discrimination.
Australia is only the most extreme example. Because of its lack of a Bill of Rights and the outdated constructs of the magistracy, the effects of prejudice and bias in the law have been intensified.
In Canada, the US, and the UK, similar "successes" have put NOW in a position contrary to standards of western culture and legislation. The position is untenable and they know it.
What is sad is that NOW does not make a mature decision to return to what were once its basic ideals; the ideals that made the organization grow. That would show real leadership and courage, faith in ideals, and vision.
What NOW is telling us all is: "You're right. We're wrong and we know it."
We could hardly have asked for any more rousing cry from NOW, as it writhes and begins to die in its own hypocrisy.
It is only a matter of time.
